I have a Seaclone 100, which I'm sure everybody is going to tell me to throw out, which works sometimes. What I mean is that there are times when for two or three days that the it collects that wonderful brown/green stuff but there are days when the froth/scum (what do you call it?) doesn't even reach the collection cup. It is in my sump and I thought it had to do with the water level but adjusting that doesn't seem to produce consistent results, I thought air regulation but that doesn't either. Does anybody own one of these and gets it to operate efficiently?

lol Nigel, you answered you own question ;)

It's called skimmate and it smells like low tide, really, really low tide.

It has everything to do with quality. The cleaner you keep it the better it should work. Frequently empting the collection cup should help performance. If you have a very low fish load & feed moderately, you might be ok until you decide to upgrade.

dude get a better skimmer its not worth modding it. this is where the lfs where right on, going the cheap route the first time, make u spend more money at the end. just get urself a used good quality skimmer for 150+ bucks. cuz u mess up the skimmer modding it and u have to buy a new skimmer anyway. and sell the seaclone to a beginner just so u dont lose out either. post it on the f/s threads and someone will buy it and upgrade.

x2..really not worth doing..save for a real skimmer...I just did all the mods for a goof to see if they made it perform any better which they did. A simple one is to cut down the center tube to about an inch, more contact time, and use a MJ1200 pump.
