I would not boil your established rock, if you have not had a problem with it.
Yes it is the same pot I make Clam Chowder in & marinara & Veal stock. Its Stainlees steel. I have people to clean it.

Well chef, I really appreciate your offer, but I have a few pots I use for beer making that I can use if boiling is a must. I guess it's definat that I'm going to be killing everything to be safe though

Cool. Cooking is def. the best option, and its cheap. Just remember that hot tap water will kill mojanos,,, so you dont have to "boil" you only need to get it to 180 or 190 degrees for a few minutes (15) and your good. After you cook and cool. Rinse them well

dont get any peppermint shrimp that is a terrible idea. there are 2 main types of peppermint shrimp, one might possibly think of eating aptasia and the other wont even look at it. Both will pick on corals thoug.

Not sure why these little guys get such a bad rep. I've had aptasia issues twice (separate tanks) and cured the issue with peppermint shrimp. Don't feed the shrimp and the only thing they'll have to eat are the anemone. I also find that these shrimp only attack corals that are weak or stressed and getting ill. I currently have 3 of these in my mixed reef tank and they don't any of the softies, lps or clam. Just my .02.

JMO but Jon bought 150 pound of live rock, half of which was completely covered in aiptasia. Even if he added a bunch of peppermint shrimp, or a butterfly fishes, they would not rid his tank of aiptasia for a very long time. By then, the aiptasia will have most likely spread to his overflows and sumps thereby making complete eradication next to impossible.

Jon, I would just boil the rock. It is the quickest way to rid your rock of all aiptasia. Sure it will reduce it to just base rock, but it will save you hours and hours of manual removal.

Jon, DON'T BOIL THE ROCK IN YOUR BEER BREWING POT. Lots of nasties in the rock you don't want in your wort. I don't think 'Aptasia Ale' sounds good at all.

I had a really bad hair algae problem, so I cooked all my rock. I didn't boil it, I just bleached it.

Put rock in trash can.
Fill up with tap water
Dump in 1 gallon of generic bleach.

Wait 2 days.

Take rock out, dump bleach water, rinse everything with tap water. (I used the hose out back.)

Lay the rocks out on the patio for a few more days.

Do a big water change on my tank. Save the old water, and put the rocks in it. Put a spare heater in the water. Turn the heater as high as it will go.

Wait 2 days and do another waterchange on your tank. Change the water out in the rock curing bucket as well. Then add a few chunks of cured LR to seed the cooked rock.

Wait a week, and move it into your tank. If you have a LOT of cured rock in the tank, you can start and move the cooked stuff bit by bit into your tank.

My peppermint shrimp loved aiptasia. He died a few months ago. Not too long after he was gone, the aiptasia came back. They may keep it at bay, but in my experience, they don't totally eradicate your tank of this pest.
