I am relocating from Ohio to southern New Mexico in July. My problem is that I have a 55 gal and a 255 gal saltwater tank (both are fish with live rock only). I have had the fish for years and they are large, fat and very happy. After much heart ache, I have decided that it is unwise to try to move the fish during July. While I hate to leave them behind as they are really members of the "family", I would feel even worse if they arrived in NM fins up.

A local restaurant is interested in purchasing all of the fish for its relatively new (but cycled) 400 gal tank - all I have to do is name my price. Any suggestions on how to do that? Here is what I have:

In the 255 gal tank:
1. 1 porcupine puffer ~ 18" long
2. 1 foxface rabbit fish ~ 8" long
3. 1 powder blue tang ~ 7" long
4. 3 yellow tangs ~ 5" long
5. 1 naso tang ~ 9" long
6. 1 convict damsil ~ 3" long
7. 1 velvet blue damsil ~ 3" long

In the 55 gal tank:
1. 1 stars & stripes puffer ~ 10" long
2. 1 yellow tang ~ 3" long
3. 1 six-line wrasse ~ 2" long

I know that local fish stores will not offer me what they would in turn sell the fish for - I'd be lucky to be quoted 1/3 of their selling price. Trick is, it is almost impossible to find such large and healty stock in stores for sale.

Any insight is appreciated.

I really wouldn't push your luck too much and would recommend settling for a significant loss to just sell it all to one local place. Shipping and parting these is a royal pain. I think 50% off "regular" price is a good target. I'm sure your fish are super healthy, but I also don't believe the restaurant owner really cares too much, sad as it is to say :? He probably just wants a better deal then buying it from a store or maintenance guy.

Ironically, it is his maintenance guy who says to name my price. He will no doubt tack on a 10 - 20% handling fee. :?
