So I just bought a cheap TDS meter.

My tap water tests at 49-50 ppm.

And my RO (no DI) reading is between 0 and 3ppm.

I realize this is good news, but the tap water TDS being so low, I'm a little suspicious. Should I be?

Thanks,
Jh

That is extremely low.

I'd be happy about it though.

I doubt you have a fauly meter.

Some city has lower TDS, such as the Pacific Northwest (not NW of the Pacific Ocean, but NW of the USA).

It all depends on the source of water. Here in So. Cal, the aquaifer and the Colorado River put a lot of Mg and Ca on the water, and the TDS is very high.

mine in nyc is ~40. I'm not even going to run RO on my new setup. Just DI. I'll use resin faster, but I won't waste any water.

Oregon rules. It took Oklahoma to get whooped up there before people realized it. Now low TDS readings. Gotta love Oregon lol.

While we're on the topic, and now that I have a TDS meter:

What kind of TDS reading should you expect from bottled water?

How about stuff labled as Mineral Water?

Should these be low-zero, or higher?

Mineral water has ions/mineral added to it for taste, and you should not expect it to have near zero TDS.
