kitchen is on an island. wont really work.
i found my naeibor has a drain pipe running throu the wall 3 ft away. its in my wall (condo) so im just gonna drill into that if i must use ro)
drain out the window onto a flower bed or something. Of course when you make a garbage can full of water for a water change there's a good chance you'll kill any flowers with 120 gallons of water or so
You can send the waste line a long way if you need to. Just snip off some of the restrictor if there's too much back pressure. The waste water is fine for anything, even drinking. I use mine for my pool.
cjsrch, don't know if you want to spend the extra money, but you can use the hot water plumbing as waste output, so there is no "waste" water when the RO is on. I don't recommand this for most people, but if you TDS is relatively high, and you must put the RO in, this maybe worthwhile.
You could even do it in the bathroom sink. Or get a kit where you attach it to the faucet while making the water then remove it when not in use. You could make X gallons then use that for topoff .

I feel you are making it harder than it really it, cjsrch. The only place that I can think of that has a cold water tap without any drain nearby is the refrigrator water filter. Everywhere else indoor, you will have a drain associates with the water outlet. Maybe I missed something here.
The "zero-waste" RO filter use a pressure pump to push the waste water back thru the hot water line. I don't think you can make use of it when I really think about it.
Remember, with a DI alone, uncharged organic or inorganic molecules passes through. Does it come with some kind of sediment filter or activated carbon?
I used to use a Tap Water Purifier which works well, but won't give you much gallons if your tap water is bad.
