Can we skip the use of skimmer?

Hello everybody, i'm a saltwater enthusiast, dedicating in F/O setup for about 10 years. I know i'm very silly to aks this question, but in my country (Indonesia), i'm one of the member in saltwater forum (like this forum). I told to the forum that NITROGEN CYCLE CAN'T BE DENY IN NEW TANK SETUP AND THE USE OF PROTEIN SKIMMER IS A MUST IN EVERY KIND OF SETUP (except if you only put one or two kind of fish). But i got challenge by 23 years of experience aquarist, he told to the forum that my technique has been obsolete, and nowadays has a technology that can skip all factor above. He said that he use :
1. RDV (Remove and evelop) this is use to break down ammonia
2. CH&F (Clean, Healthy and Fresh) this is use to recondition water to become more healthy, crystal clear, and fresh.
3. SPR&Gw ( Supravit&Growth) this formula contain mineral, vitamin and trace element, so that this formula can normalize again the water.

3 formula above combine with supplement inactive beneficial bacteria (contain 9 kinds bacteria) can make super water and no need to change water forever and no need a skimmer again? :roll:

According to me this is absolutely wrong, but ANYBODY KNOW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, PLEASE GIVE ADVICE IN THIS TOPIC!!!

I'm sure that this formula should be "made in" one of your country, so anybody knows this formula and have an answer please don't be hesitate to reply this topic.

Alot of nano reefers don't use skimmers. On a bigger tank, I would use one.

Just skip the size of the aquarium, what i want to know is the truth of his statement, either he just lying or he is true?
BTW he said that he has a 260 cm (lenght) x 80 cm (width) x 150 (height), he setup reef system, and he said that he can avoid the new syndrome by giving the formula that i mention above. 8)

i have a reef setup with no skimmer, but i only have 3 small fish in a 55G. but i have a DSB, live rock, and macro's growing in the tank. but i will probly be getting a skimmer when i plan on adding another fish.

It doesn't really matter which method you use to export the garbage, as long as you have a system and stick with it. Water changes, skimmer, carbon, ion exchange , refugium with plant growth all add up to exporting nutrients. Lately i'm skimmerless and more water changes. Works out to be the same results.

Ehmm my friend, what he said is the system with quite fully load of fishes and invertebrate, but he doesn't need skimmer and no need water changes, can it happen?

It can happen as long as their is a form of nutrient export. No skimmer, no DSB, no Water change will eventually cause a tank crash.
