Worth it to keep the on going high electric bills.

I fiigured this tank the main tank is running me $60 a month, the nano is costing me $30

So approximately it is costing me $100 a month to run on top off my electric appliances and heat.

I may rethink this and go back to a basic FW tank.

Ya better change your user name then. :)
Seriously, my 375 costs me between 100 and 200 bucks a month. 1600 watts of halides, 2 Ampmaster 3000's and a chiller. Summer time is a killer. Is it worth it?? HELL YEA!

Yeah, I may be worth it but money is getting tight now. I got electric heat so all year around it is bad for me.

Considering selling everything and waiting a few years until I have enough money to waste away.

Do you really want to know what this hobby is costing you? Would you admit it if you really knew?

Not me. 8)

i moved in with my sister and her electric bill jumped up about 100 bucks a month.

i have a 30g (with normal output coralife bulbs), 20g, and 10g salt tanks, plus a 30g freshwater tank. i think all the extra skimmers and filters and stuff sucks up quite a bit, although not as much as if i had sumps and halide lighting, etc....but im still willing to upgrade to a bigger tank and do the full blown reef tank thing. I'd almost pick fishtanks over groceries...its totally worth it!

Rod,
Invariably, if a reefkeeper have to ask this question, the answer is always no, IMO. It does cost quite a bit to run a reef tank. Larger the tank, the more it cost.
Good luck and I hope you will be able to get a good price for your stuff.

Its worth it, just trying to get things staightened out. Too many bills right now thats all. Just trying to find a way to save money so "ONE DAY" we can buy a house (Dreaming). Even maybe get a large tank then too but that may never happen.

I am trying to breed clowns right now for that very purpose...(anybody got advice, pm me! i already ordered joyce wilkerson's book so that'll help...)
