hi all, i have finaly decided i need an ro/di, and even though i am broke, i cant pass up this powerbuy. but i have a few concerns, as i have never had one before. first of all, how long will the various filters last? i realize this depends on the quality of my tap water, but lets say average clorinated public water. i am concerned by this because if it needs to be replaced often, i think i would rather get the one at my lfs because i would be able to by the replacements there. unless i would still be able to use other filter cartriges for it. are they interchangable?
also, what type of connector fitting do you recomend, the sink faucet, or what they call the saddle valve? I am not sure what the saddle valve connector is.
one last question, what do you estimate shipping to be?
thanx

Most cartridges are interchangeable, but I'm not sure about membranes. The membrane should last 6-12 months with average use, and the cartridges closer to 3-4 months.

hi.
As long as the membrane is the same size, they are interchangeable. However, if the rating/type of the membrane is different, you will have to adjust the flow restrictor valve, or whatever it is called.

You will probably be fine. Check the powerbuy thread and call the manufacturer or store. They should be able to tell you if it's compatible with other brands' cartridges and membranes.
