Hi everybody,
I notice for the first time that my Gobiodon okinawae is breeding. I notice the egg mass with one of the parent fanning it in the middle of a Acropora colony tonight. I don't think the baby will survive in my main tank. I don't think I will try to catch and raise them due to lack of time and resource at this time.
Just wanted to let everybody know.

Minh,

Be careful with them. I had a buddy who's pair got so into spawning that they killed a decent sized acro by tearing the tissue off of it to spawn on and it ended up with RTN from the continued stress. I'm curious on this as I've thought of getting a pair. One thing that seems to be the case from anecdotal information I've gathered is that the citrons are the worst at this bad behaviour followed by the yellows. I've never heard of the green or black clown gobies damaging corals when they spawn.

FWIW, Nathan

Minh,

From what I've read, I think you can catch the fry using a flashlight after lights out. That's what I do to catch my clown fry.

Since you know when they are going to hatch:

Feed all fish before lights out
Turn off all pumps
Affix flashlight in upper right corner of tank (or near eggs)
Turn off lights
Turn on flashlight

Wait a few minutes while fry hatch
Either siphon or cup out the fry and put them into a rearing tank

It's worth a try, right? You can catch live plankton to feed them right behind your house, or you can grow or order rotifers/greenwater.

I use a rotifer/greenwater mixture from Mountain Corals. I only have to add it twice a day - once before work and once after.

Cheers
James

Thanks guys. The eggs hatched last night. Iguess it have being there for a few days before I notice it.
The Acropora colony was injured but I think will recover.
Another reefer indicated that they spawned every 5 days in his tank and hatch after 4 days
