Help with problem anemone...not aptaisia

I have a serious problem with an anemone that is spreading through my tank. I bought a polp rock from a LFS.....and through my own ignorance, didn't wonder about the 5 or 6 anemones on the rock....sort of a flourescent green/brown color....bubble tip.......but now after 2 months, they are spreading off of that rock, and the polyps on the rock are decreaed by 50% due to overgrowth of this anemone..someone said they may be anemone majoris (?)

any natural biological predators?

Yes it is often called the majano anemone. Quite common, not all that bad looking but a prolific breeder. No known natural predator that I am aware of. So create a predator. Start injecting them with kalk.

Well, Barry gave me a few of those to "try out"

when I bought a couple softies from him. I injected mine with a heavy kalk mix and haven't seen them since. They seem to die a little easier with the injections than Aptasia does. Not all that big of a deal...

The one on the left is a green morph of the majano.

The one on the right is a different species but has the similar annoying trait of reporducing rather prolifically. We have a few majano's that we take care of with kalk. The others came in on corals or LR from someone's tank when we bought them from them, unknown original source. Not a major pest though, can be rather easily eradicated with kalk injections.

Just an update on danmhippo's link; I tried the boiling water / turkey baster method on those buggers and only had about 35% effectiveness rate. BTW as stated some have now developed stems (pedals) and are getting bigger... So... after not being able to find Ball or Mrs.Wages Pickling Lime (their web site saya "temporairly out of stock") and being a cheap sob, I contacted a friend who's in the chemical business and owes me a favor. I now have 50 lbs. of food grade Calcium Hydroxide on the way for -$0.00-. Heh, heh, heh. They're All Gonna Die!!!!! Anyone locally who needs some of the above, let me know as 50# would last me about 37.5 yrs. and I don't have that much time left Merry Merry, Ed
