Yes all are on IC's. You will need to acclimate for sure. I raised the pendants way up ( at first not enough and several things started to bleach). I'm slowly lowering them an inch or 2 a week and everything is adjusting well. FWIW, I believe these lamps to be identical to the Giesmann Megachrome Coral 14K lamps and about $20 cheaper too. The inner construction of the bulbs is absolutely identical, I can't speak to the gases inside, but visually they look the same too.
thanks mike i have 250watt
randy, maybe you could answer this for me i am always judging a bulb by its par rating higher par better bulb? how is the ushio brighter but have a lower par on icecaps
Mike, I'm picking up a set of these from HOF tomorrow to run on my HQI ballasts. From what Jim tells me, they are not the same bulbs as you see in reeflightinginfo. Randy, Jim and I think Rich have all seen them in person and think they're much brghter than the Phoenix.
I don't think they are the same lamps either. I'll check with Sanjay. There is absolutely no question they are brighter than the Phoenix as the scorched corals in my tank will attest.
Randy,
Any idea of what photo period I should run? Currently running 7 hours with the Phoenix- no actinics. Also adding a set of actinics to these. Thanx.
If you have the ability to raise the lights/shade the tank then keep the same photoperiod. If not I'd cut back to like 4 hours assuming you run the actinics longer and then slowly increase until you get to 7. Ultimately, 7 for MH and 10 for actinics seems reasonable.
If you have the actinics running ( so things stay in daylight photosynthetic mode) you could do that. Just watch your corals carefully and adjust accordingly.
well i got a second hand ushio 14k to try out as per randy rec. i have my tank acclimating with 3 pieces of screen i guess i will take one layer off a week. i must say randy is right this bulb is alot brighter than the phen. 14k. i will take a pic once all screen is off
Tony, i think the ushio 14k is only in 175 and 400watters. Maybe i'm wrong, but i just ordered 10k se ushios and i was looking for the 14k and saw them in only the wattages i listed.
