T, right now i have AB's on HQI, i am still waiting on the Ushios so i can't comment. I did try the XM's on the HQI but they weren't too white, maybe they work better on the regular ballast for which they are intended to be used. I went with the Ushios due to their higher par, and well because i always wanted to try them.
I know that the reeflux 250's on HQI or magnetic, Parwise suck! I am pretty sure on the elecronic they can't be any different. On HQI their par is 113.
Well let me correct this statement. At 113, that is still great, but think of the ushios at 159.
pedro post some pics when you recieve em and there burned in... and keep me updated... if they look good i think i might go for the ushios... im happy with the xm's but wanna try something a lil whiter/bluer and a lil brighter...
Suck is a relative term They are nowhere near as bright as XM or Ushio 10K's, I think the PAR on IC's is around 85, but they are plenty bright, (particularly if you have a good reflector) and they grow and color up coral nicely. As with all things in the reef lighting game it depends on your equipment, your aesthetics and your goals. If I was solely concerned with PAR I'd go back to Iwasaki 65K's--- now those suckers grow coral!!!--- but they are a bit yellow by todays standards.
Randy, to this day Iwasaki's are still my favorite lamps. If only they weren't as yellow. Those lamps rock. If i had enough acinics, i wouldn't hesitate to use them again!
I have high hopes for the Iwasaki 15K 250's when they are released. If they are any where close to replicating the performance of the 175's in terms of PAR and whiteness ( with the anticipated increase in power from a 250W version) we will really be on to something. Soon(ish) I'm told.
