I am using a Won-Pro titanium heater in my 55g and I absolutely love it!

I use to run Visitherm glass heaters on all my freshwater tanks for years with 0 problems and went with this on my first reef until I almost had a catastrophe on my hands when a piece of my Live Rock fell against the heater and cracked the glass.

I decided to go titanium because there is no glass to break and the Won-Pro has a remote mounted thermostate that you mount outside the tank for easy adjustment. My tank only varies +/- 2 degrees with this brand heater and the remote thermostate is an absolute dream setup.

I've searched through the library here, at Reef Central, & other places, but I've found few threads re: the different brands of heaters. I've heard a few good things about Ebo Jaeger heaters, but little else. It's not the biggest expense, but I'd hate to buy a bad one- does anyone have any suggestions (positive or negative)?

I lost a 125 gallon reef packed with corals to a glass heater that broke. I am using the won pro titanium heater now and am very happy with it.

I use Won-Pro titanium also. Remeber that 2 small ones are much better than 1 large one. The logic is that if one goes bad, the damage it can do is limited. The chances that both will go bad simultaneously are very low.

I've had the same Ebo Jager on my 55 gal tank for over 10 years. I'm going to replace it with another one only because I'm worried it might be getting too old now. They're good.

if the heater is in the sump or refugium does it really matter what type glass or titanium

The heater that broke on my tank was in the sump, the whole tank was still wiped out. I'll never use a glass heater again.

Ok then Titanium is more gooder. I will go out and get one before I have the same problem. Better to learn from someone else's mistakes rather than repeat the tried and proven

How long is the 300W Won heater? Reason I'm asking.. I bought 2 Ebo's (250W, 17") for my lifereef 125 sump, and Jeff tells me they will not fit.

Anyone know if the titanium case on the Won-Pro is connected to the ground wire? If so, it doubles as a grounding rod. Neat!

I use a pair of 300w visitherm heaters in my sump to heat my 180. No problems for over 5 years.

Of course, they only go on during cold night when the halides are off. I have been thinking about using a temp controller, but have had no real reason to spend the cash yet.

I recommend the Ebo Jager. They hold the temperature very consistent and have been time tested.

It's not. In fact, there is no ground on the plug. And the case is not common with the return side of the plug either.

Has anyone used the "Jalli" titanium heater that is sold without a thermostat? I am looking for a titanium heater to use with a separate dual stage controller.

Sorry, it took me so long to answer; I had to pull one out of my sump to measure it. It'll fit in a 13" space but the cord sticks out the end so you should probably allow 14".
