Can you identify this algae?

Does anyone now what type of algae this is? Better yet, do you know how to get rid of it or stop it from spreading. It's real slick and can't be scrubbed off with a toothbrush.

Why do you want to get rid of it? If you are talking about the orange patch, it looks like coraline. Good stuff!

It comes in all kind of colours from red, purple, orange, white.....

How old is your tank MacGyver? I forget the name of that algae but I have found that it is common in newly cycled tanks. The bad news is that I have never found anything to eat it when it is thriving. The good news is that it seems to deplete nutrients quickly and then it starts to disintegrate and die. Once it starts to break down, bristle worms and cerith snails (and perhaps others) will help clean it up. But I also recommend removing it when it starts to soften and fall apart in order to avoid releasing nutrients back into the tank. I have had this stuff in every tank I ever started and once it has died off it had never ever returned, even three or four years down the road. Hope that helps.

That's it. Brown Wafer Algae, huh? My tank is about 9 months old. Pretty new in the grand scope of things. Hopefully if I keep the nutrients low, it will cycle itself out. Thanks for the informative link.
