Calcium Reactor?

I am interested in calcium reactors. Can anyone explain how they work exactly. What type of media to use. I am very adept at DIY projects and I have access to just about any tool you can think of. My tank is a 125gal. with a 40 gallon refugium. I am getting tired of adding two part solutions and dosing Kallswasser. I can build it if I understood how they work. I am just looking for how they work. I'll worry about the actual DIY project later. Thanks!
