Hey everyone, my Anemone split!

It was a tiny baby when I added it to the tank about two months ago, and it has been growing consistantly since. I've got two now and both seem to be doing fine. My clownfish is a little confused as to which one is her home though?

I am assuming this is a natural breeding thing, and a sign of a healthy Anemone? I fed it a large peice of my homemade frozen food about a week ago, and did a 10% water change on Tuesday evening after lights out. I discovered the new Anemone a couple inches away from the parent one yesterday.

I am wondering if it was the feeding or the water change that might have sparked the split? Anyone who sucessfully raises Anemones have any idea how often this behaviour occurs?

i think its the feeding that really made it take of and it a really good sign that its doing well. if you get really good at you can sell the split bbt back to your lfs. their is a pesron in my are that has great luck with rose bbt and makes some really good money doing it. she turns in 4-5 each year and get good money for them

First of all,congrats!!!!

Second, you are correct that anemones are sometimes coaxed into splitting by the conditions of the surrounding water. My first split was when I went away for a week and my dripper clogged and my SG was up to 1.027 from a 1.023. The temp was a little higher also. It was normally 80,but went up to 86. I am not soo sure that the temp was the key,but I do think that raising the SG a few points over a week may help trigger a split. Some believe that the lunar phases play a large role in a spawning.

Either way,good luck,

Dan

Typically, there is some change that sparks the split. I did a triple water change over the course of a few days to lower nitrates, and my BTA split right after that.
