Hi All,

I am going to have to dismantaly my reef tank and sell my corals. Will be moving twice in the next 2 years and one very far away. I think it is best to find homes for my corals, but I was hoping someone could tell me the best way to do this. In the last year and a half I have had this tank, nothing has died and I really don't want to start now. Ideas please.

Find a reef club and sell them to the more experienced members. That way you know they're going to knowledgable, dedicated reefers. Just don't ask for top dollar if you are more concerned about them going to good homes. The more established tanks are typically already well stocked.

Hi ya, I agree with 2poor2reef. Take a look at www.maslac.com, they have members who have awesome tanks, therefore you know your livestock will end up in good hands.

Also, please keep me in mind when you dismantle your tank, I would love to take a looksee and take stuff off your hands. I am in Hermosa on weekends playing volleyball.

Your other option is to "loan" them to somebody who knows what they're doing and is willing to take on your corals and give you frags big chunks back when you settle down (even over long distances). I am just starting to get stuff back from when I went FO a few years ago, and one of the corals I got back is a chunk of blue ridge coral which I got about 10 years ago as a piece of base rock for star corals. The chunk went from about a 1/4" to around 3" in my tank over the years (I was not a dedicated SPS keeper, and so it did not flourish, but it also did not perish, just grew very slowly) and in the past year or so that I gave it to my friend, it is now over 1 1/2 feet wide, and encrusts not only large chunks of rock, but also his tank and the overflow with myriad towers going up to the surface of the tank and spreading out flat like a table top acropora. If you've got close friends whom share your interests, go that route instead. You can always visit your corals in the future if you never set it up again.
