Can large sea anemones be successfuly matained in captivity? The book The Modern Reef Aquarium vol. 2 suggest that they can and are being succesfuly kept by aquarist, however, many post and articles that I have read and site that I have visited state that only very experienced aquarist can maintain large sea anemones for even a short while (about 1 to 5 years). Who is correct? I am captivated by these aniamls and their symboitic relationships but refuse to support the trade of a species that is only destined for an early death in capitivity.

You have answered your question. They have been kept for over 10 years and counting and information is getting better on the husbandry of keeping them but you should have a lot of experience in both maintainig salt water levels and manipulating those levels to give these animals any chance of living long lives. You must match the lighting and current requirments as well as other considerations to the species involved. Thus all the advice well given to wait untill you have enough profiency at keeping saltwater tanks.

Everyone on this board is captivated by the relationship between sea anemones and clownfish.
IMO the articles you read are 100% correct.
I like your last sentence.
