i cut a super red shroom and 2 pieces of richordia from a friend...let them on a rock w/ plastic window screening for 2 or 3 weeks. they all attached but the richordia looks really pale...whitish. and the red shroom is TINY. are the super reds a real small shroom?

i have the richordia high in the water column...heard they light light. how long before they get green again..it have been a month since i took the screen off...so about in my tank for 1 1/2months. i want green richordia. i have 1 vho 50/50, 1 vho actinic and 2 65k NO flous...that should be enought.

my shrooms don't seem to want to spread either...any suggestions? i am thinking of cutting the pedal to help them along

First off: It's ricordea not richordia.

Second: Super red's are a common name most likely given by your lfs. I don't believe that there are types of shrooms that stay small, i think they all get a couple inches across with age.

Your ricordea has bleached, ie it cannot feed itself w/ the byproducts of photosynthesis carried out by the algae inside because there aren't any left! Maybe it bleached when you put the screening over it, was it clear? Must have if its for windows, maybe it just cut down the light so much that it bleached. My guess is that your friend that you got the ricordea from has substantially weaker (but possibly brighter) lighting than you. When you tossed it in your tank the ricordea couldn't keep up w/ all the active o2 and whatnot produced by the algae so it dumped them.

No idea if or when it will "un bleach" itself, could happen soon or never. If it does happen it will slowly darken. Not sure whats up with the red shroom but remember, you did take a cutting so it's going to be small. HTH

sorry i must explain, i cut the shroom off at the stalk not cut the pedal. so it was a full shroom.

the ricordia has a spot that is darker green. i hope the rest will darken like the little line on it is.

thanks

THe super red mushrooms that I keep do not seem to get much bigger than 1 inch across. They are birght Neon pink when they start and darken to red, some times with white lines, as they age. They do not do well with bright (MH) lighting.
