Live Sand in a Bag!

i got 2-20lb bags for $40. that is what started my tank. then couple months later found out i should have a dsb so i added 30lbs of carib sand.

1st item is 40lbs for $40

you have to pay shipping so it might be cheaper to get it at a LFS. it says it has a shelf life of like 2 yrs or some crap...how the hell?

so how can i tell if my sand be is alive a lot? when i got my LR i had and arrow crab and he ate a ton of worms and good stuff...i was dumb and didn't know better. got some stuff from ipfs and hoped that added life back in. i have the green/red markings on the sand line up against the glass and i see a few worms and holes up against the glass? good enough? tank is doing great.

mine was shipped in -50degree weather too. said as long as it doesn't freeze i was ok. i don't know if that is true

Yah, I saw a bag at the LFS that said live sand. I just laughed. Probably good sand, but not "live".

Well...guess I was wrong about the pods. I know I heard pods....maybe it was that very experienced and full of knowledge LFS guy I was talking to.

What do you think about CaribSea's new Agra-Alive live sand in a bag?
I saw it in a LFS for $27 for a 20lb. bag. Sounds good, but I dunno. Any thoughs?

If you are talking about what I think, Im pretty sure its "live" in the sense of bacteria only. It doesnt contain pods, snails, stars, etc. Personally I think you would be better off buying the "real" live sand, or getting it from a friends tank.

It said contain Pods? Really? Do you know of a webpage that has a description of it? Hard to imagin how would pods survive in a bag with little O2 sitting on shelves for weeks before it is sold.!

If it does contains pods, you should see them through the bag, at least a couple.
I would be leary.
