so what skimmer? he wanted to get a seaclone or prisim. i suggested NO WAY IN HELL! he would like to spend about $100 and i said that isn't possible so what is the next option...no diy's unless they are like myreefs i don't want him to do i a diy and hate it like i hated mine!!

I currently have a seaclone on my 55 - I don't have that much in there right now but have been somewhat dissapointed in the performance it does - Hardly none.

I am interested in the modification people have done to them to make them work better before I go and buy a new one as I am finally getting ready to keep corals.

My tank is crystal Clear, all the glass is clean, just did a water change, and my new MH hood will be here tommorow ! I can't wait - It was like Christmas time this week but at least I got some good maintainance done in my tank !

If someone could elaborate on the modifications I would be greatful !

Oh in case I haven't said, This message board is great, you are all friendly and very hepful- This is where I will call home from now on.

Well your better skimmers you will have to pay the money and it will save you in livestock and frustration later.
There is alot of rap against seaclone skimmers out there and some people have modified them and they seem to work alright and I had one on my 72 gallon reef tank and it worked fine. Having said that I went to a Aqua C Remora Pro Hang-on skimmer for my new 80 gallon reef and it works very well. You just hang it on and plug it in and the way you go.
My tank is about 8 months old and have had no problem with the skimmer and it skims fine alot of pea soup and thick coated green junk along with it. JMO Johnny

from what i've heard, a remora pro would be a good choice. it's not $100 but probably the best bang for the buck for under $200. i don't have any experience with it though; so i don't know first hand.

I have a turbofloter T1000 that I used on a 75g for over a year. I just upgraded to at 125 tank and am still using it. People have had trouble with them, but I like mine.
Paid 169.00 for it on line.

I have CPR Backpacks on 3 tanks, the largest one a 55 gal. YOu could try that on a 75 gal, but would have to consider the tank "lightly skimmed." www.marinedepot.com has them for around $120 if memory serves. You would be better off with the aquaC remora or remora pro, but if the choice is the backpack or nothing, it might be enough, especially if you plan to have a refugium or something. I find my prizm is inadequate for my 10 gallon tank. It either does nothing or floods the carpet in my office. The seaclone is even worse.

Hi slk3599,

what kind of pump do you have on your turbofloter? I have a similiar skimmer and would like to replace my rio600.
