Hermits are scavengers... thus they will eat anything, but I have yet to see any of the different crabs ive kept eat a snail... but then again, I go against the grain and have more crabs than snails. Although very lil # of both. The thing is that mostly when you hear of that is when the snail is dying (astraes suck) or when they are overstocked on cleanup crew. They then have nothing ot eat so they would kill the snails. Hope that helps.
