I my experience the flex pvc is too stiff to work well on a barbed fitting. I would use a 1" female slip to male thread adapter and buy the SS with the female pipe thread. To make assembly/disassembly easier I would put a 1" union inline of the flex near the SS. JMO.

I agree with EEreefer, his idea will be a nice hook up if you need to take the swirl off for some reason. I hooked mine up with flex hose but wish I would have gone this way now

Hey Steve. Yes I am in love with the flexible PVC now. I still have a bit of tubing in my setup but as soon as I figure out how I'm replacing it
