Hello. I have been doing searches on Ca reactors and can't seem to find out what exactly one is. What is a calcium reactor? What does it do and how does it work? I currently have a low calcium problem (300) and am trying to raise it. I've been adding reef advantage calcium (powder) a week now along with my usual dosages of b-ionic. No Ca raise has occurred.

-Thanks-
Mike

Hi Mike and Pam,
Without getting too technical:
A Calcium reactor is just a container that holds aragonite media,to wich co2 is added, when this happens the ph is reduced to a point that the media can dissolve, this adds what was in the media, back into the water.
Imo,it is the best way to maintain your Ca++ and Alk parameters.

Heres one of my old ones:

I agree with fudge. You are basically dissolving the skeletons of formerly living organisms (crushed coral, shells etc) in order to provide the essential elements back into the water. This is mostly calcium and carbonate, but it also provides the correct amount of magnesium, borate, strontium and other elements.
