Just wondering as I'm sifting through the
search results of RO and RI water.

I'm in the position where I can pick up a good RO unit for a great price (free

The best part is that it comes with a 3 gallon baffle container for storage. Since the tank is in the front room, I can exchange the 2 storage tanks every other day and never have to worry about my tank flooding if the float fails on me. The sump can hold the 3 gallons easy

However, I always seem to read RO/RI together. Not apart. So, I thought I'd ask.

Kind regards.

I believe you mean the RO/DI systems, which are Reverse Osmosis/Deionization filters. For most applications, an RO unit by itself will be a fine choice. DI will give you an extra level of filtration but of course drive up the cost. Kent Marine has some good info on these filters on their web site. http://www.kentmarine.com is their home site. http://www.kentmarine.com/tapfilter.pdf will take you directly to the filter info, to view this page you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader.

The quality of your RO water will be directly related to the type and condition of the membrane in it. A backflush kit will greatly extend its life. So it is a good idea to check the output once in awhile to be sure it is still doing a good job.

There realy is a pretty big difference between RO and RO DI below I have listed typical rejection rates for an RO system alone. Really the two are best as a team. When you add a DI you can change these numbers to 99% to 100% across the board. When it comes to nitrates realistic numbers prove that RO alone will remove half at best!

Ammonium 85-95% Nitrate 93-96%
Arsenic 94-96% Phosphate 99+%
