I am setting up a new tank and I am looking at getting corals it the future and was wanting to know what fish people have in there tanks. I was wanting a Butterfly fish but I hear the nip at corals. I do not want to get a fish that will cause me more problems in the future. Right now I have a flame amgel, bicolor blenny, and two damsels in my 55 gallon that I might move to my new 75 gallon. I might not move the damsels because they are pretty plain and somewhat aggresive.

Leave the damsels in the 55. They, as you are probably aware, are very territorial and it is next to impossible to remove them from a tank. I think a good first fish is the algae blenny, Salarias faciatus, it eats algae and has a graet personality. After that, I would wait for a couple of months to let the tank stabilize and go throught the algae cycle. I would also add kits from IPSF and Inland Aquatics. HTH

I have a yellow tang, maroon clown, blackcap basset, two blue damsels, eyelash blenny, pagama cardinal, and a spotted hawkfish. I like them all but the clown is very aggressive and the hawkfish killed my pepperment shrimp. The tang, basset, damels and blenny pretty much keep to themeselves and I would recommend them.

Vanilla,
Here's what's in my 55:
2 Ocellaris Clowns
1 Lawnmower Blenny (Salarias fasciatus)
2 Neon Gobies (Gobiosoma oceanops)
1 Pygmy Cherub Angel (Centropyge argi)
This is a very peaceful, active community. I've had the Cherub for 2-1/2 years and have had no problems with coral nipping, though some have reported that.
Butterflies are problematical as they do eat inverts and some might nip corals.

2 tomatoe clowns
2 bangaii cardinals
flame hawk
foxface
bicolor blennie
mandarin
6 line wrasse
kole tang
hippo tang

All have great personalities, except for the bangaii's. They're like little robots, and nothing seems to bother them. The kole has recently been cruising any corals that expell excess zooxanthellae and picks at it as the algae is expelled. The polyps will shrink as a result, but no harm is done. 180g.

38 gal.

Coral beauty...model citizen..so far.
Mandarin..put her in before I knew better, but she is fat and healthy.

Planning on another clown to replace the one that jumped.

I had a purple pseudochromis...BIG mistake...competed with the mandarin.

In my 180G:

1 Mandarin
1 Yellow tang
1 Hippo tang
1 maroon clown
3 yellow damsels

I need to remove the damsels and then the clown. I eventually hope to have the following:

1 Mandarin
1 Yellow tang
1 Hippo tang
1 naso tang
2 ocelaris clowns
8 green chromis

I currently do not have any fighting, nor problems with fish picking on corals except for the yellow tang will occasionally pick on my tree coral. It doesn't seem to be suffering much, though.

My 75g reeftank has:
1 redsea sailfin tang
1 large tomato clown
1 6-line wrasse
1 blue-cheek/valencia goby
1 neon dottyback
1 pygmy angel
1 flame angel
1 lemonpeel angel
The valencia goby sifting sometimes aggrivates some of the corals, but I try to place them where there is a lesser chance of irritation. Tried to catch him, but no luck, so we've adjusted.
The pygmy angel has left all alone, and my flame and lemonpeel have nipped at my softie, the tree coral, but otherwise leaves all well alone. And the three of them do get along as well.

In my 54g corner reef I have:
1 large foxface
1 scopas tang
1 maroon clown
1 bicolored dottyback
These guys are also very good for the reef tank, and are interesting to watch.
