took a few weeks, but this is my new 75 gallon with 40 breeder underneath. made it using 2 by 4s and 2 by 6s lumber for the stand and using 12 inch boards for the canopy. Also build an upflow algae scrubber into the right side being fed from the over flow. Don't think it will be enough nutrient export, so I'll also be using the sump space as a refugium in addition to coral frag rack.

Lights are up! using my two old Ocean revive T247 up top at 120W each and just hung an SB pro light on the bottom at 360W. Over kill but it fits the space. Using a generic 45W red/blue 12" hydroponic LED panel for the up flow algae scrubber.

Didn't have much algae for the first week after seeding the tank from the ocean with 5 species of algae, but this past week, the growth has exploded. Three weeks of algae growth, with locally caught spearing, killiefish, mussels, clams, shrimp and white hermit crabs. Things are progressing nicely and will be ready for herbivores shortly. The cycling looks like its about done. Already cleared out my algae scrubber once, will see how much it fills in by the end of next week and take a photo of it. Primary source of nutrient would be from the dead organisms that I didn't bother throwing out.

Nice set up. But my question on your sump. I don?t see a partition. So if your out take gets block. Your pump will keep pumping water into main tank. Causing a flood. Or when you have power failure. Can your sump hold the water from main tank. Have you test it by shutting it off to see if sump will hold.

ok, lets see, the sump has a partition for the algae scrubber , but it is not load bearing, so the sump really has only one chamber. If the pumps were to stop, I've marked off the high water line with blue tape, so the sump water level will rise about 2 inches. The real problem is if the overflow U tube gets clogged, nothing I can do about that, though I've never had it clog in the past, though I had a friend who had a large turbo snail go into his, and that really causing flooding. How it got in there? don't ask, mysteries abound.
I have 2 drains in my overflow box, using the Herbie or BeanAnimal method tuned for silent draining.
