Dragonet only eat live pods. He probably have already been starving the whole time in the LFS. Dragonet eat hundreds of pods a day. If you don't have an old tank that have that much pods population, you'll likely continuously starving it to death as well.

Order some pods from reefcleaners.org , or get some from lfs. Gotta be live pods. Get a population going in tank or it will starve to death. Once acclimated you can try to get it eating other foods, but not usual

They're beneficial for many reasons. Many types of livestock will eat em. And they eat crap in the tank to help keep it clean. Usually you need about 50 gallon tank wit live rock per dragonet. So if you have less add more regularly. If you have more than 50 gal per then the pods will likely reproduce faster than the dragon can eat em. But you should add some every year or so so they don't stop breeding from inbreeding. Need to keep the Dna diverse or they die off.

Dragonets and Mandarins while can be trained to eat prepared foods prefer and often only eat pods. I would recommend Tisbe or Apocyclops pods and Tigger pods are more cold water species. The Meat as offered some good suggestions unfortunately many of these fish already are starved by the time they are sold. Before purchasing a good indication is to look at their belly and see if it is pinched in which is a sign its probably too late. I always recommend when people inquire about these fish to purchase pods a couple weeks in advance to seed the tank but if you order some pods could still have a chance, good luck.

dragonnets and mandarins are pod eaters why would you want to get rid of your pods especially when just starting a tank, first there are no pods present unless you introduce them, and if you did have them i would leave them alone since they would probably help the cycle process, stick to damsels for the first 3 or 4 months

Damsels are hardy and a good choice for first fish but bad because very territorial and you'll probably want them out once stable which won't be easy.
If the tank is big enough and/or you add enough pods to be eaten then what gets eaten is not a problem

Pods can be introduced to tank with rocks, corals ", macro, whatever, but putting some in guarantees it

I have 9 red and gray scooter blenny's in 2 tanks. He looks like a red scooter blenny (right ) . The ruby red dragonet (left side) ship terribly and are usually all pinched in and don't make it. I have attached a couple of photo's below showing the difference. If it is a scooter blenny he should eat any tiny sinking pellet, I use Sustainable Aquatics pellets . Good Luck with him
