they climb on coral and yes they will close up but I don't think it's "stressing" them. Let's remember these things are from the ocean where far more activity and current is taking place beyond what we produce in our tanks. . . I doubt a crab climbing on a coral will stress it out to the point of death. Just my 2 cents though.
Mine do fine. Did have an issue with them eating my snails at first but I found out the snails were dead or dying and so they ate them...again only the strong survivor...lol

I have one in my 46 gallon bow front. He is a great cleaner. Note that some turn white. There was a recent thread on this. Many different ideas on why this happens. Mine is on the whiter side but seems healthy. I have had him for many months, he has molted a few times that I know of and the color remains the same.

I have 6. 2 are puny nerds and 4 that are beef heads. They grew to half dollar size. They clean the rocks well. Other than that, they stand around looking at their reflection flexing their claws and posing. One day I saw my cleaner shrimp standing on top cleaning a big emerald that was standing on top cleaning a blue legged hermit crab and my hippo tang....just staring at them. LOL!
