This might sound crazy. I am setting up a 700 glass tank. It is presently set up as a peninsula tank. My floorplan will not allow this. The overflow is located on the right side, so it is visible from the front (8inches wide). I am not a big fan of internal overflows and durso standpipes. Thinking of removing the overflow and drilling the back. My 240 has 2 internal overflows and takes up some nice real estate. My 300 was drilled and looked very clean. Drilling isn't a problem. Am I crazy or is it justified to rescue 8 inches of real estate?

Its a 700 gallon tank?

If its that big of a tank I don't think 8 inches for an overflow matters at all, small tanks yes, I hate the space they take up.

I have to assume you are going to disassemble that tank and will have to put it together once again including the overflow, hence, you can patch up holes and make new ones so if its not going to add more work to your build go for it.

If its going to add more work despite you knowing how to drill, its 8 inches of a 700 gallon tank, I doubt that it will be a real state issue.

I agree with d5332 that in a tank that large it really wont matter, then again I adhere to mikes theory: set it up with no regrets! If your going for the peninsula style again I would redrill it too. Just look better IMO.
That's a large glass tank, how much of pia to move it?
