How long should I acclimate fish?

I'm buying an algae blenny today for my 30 gallon. I want to know how long I should drip acclimate him. I plan I floating the bag for 15 minutes, then putting him in a styrafoam container and then dripping him for 30 minutes with 3-4 drops per second. Does this sound good? Do algae blennys need a lot of sand? I plan on feeding frozen and will ask for him to be fed before I bought him.

I usually float for 15 to 20 min and then drip for anywhere between 30 and 60 minutes , usually 60 for corals and nems and 30 to 45 for fish , if its coming from a fish store that keeps thier fish only tanks at 1.021 i usually do 45 minutes because i keeo my tank at 1.025

Personally I think dripping is pointless, I have another technique that is better. Float the bag for 15-20 mins then add about 1/5 bag volume of your aquarium water. If the bag is very full you might need to dump some out first. After the initial float for temperature acclimation do the 1/5 volume thing 3 times15-20 mins each time. I do this twice for corals and 3 times for fish I have never lost a fish or coral once. The key is keeping the temp the same the entire time. When you drip in another container the water is getting colder as time goes on and by the time you actually put the fish in the temp is not the same. That's why continuing to float is better and the fish also has fresh air every 15-20 mins.

Two things need to be taken into account here, the Ph and the SG of the bag that the fish is in. If you brought the fish from a LFS or a local hobbyist then the Ph should be OK, during the time that you transport the fish but if you get the fish shipped the Ph may actually be low, so you need to take into account for that. As for the SG, a lot of place run their fish systems with low SG, I know LA ships their fish at low SG, 1.017, so you need to acclimate the fish up to your SG.

x2....I once acclimate a pair of Purple Queens for over six hours because of the SG and the PH was only 6.7... I got them right off the truck.
