Hi Guys and Gals! I need help.

I want to replace my tank's main pump which is presently a Mag5 pump. I have a low flow sump design. I am specifically looking for a low wattage, low heat releasing submersible pump (maybe I could go external? ). I want to get away from Magdrives for obvious reasons.

The pump would only need to return water back to my main tank I don't want it for flow purposes (I have tunze for that), the main reason for this is because of the battery backups hooked up to the pump as an emergency prevention.

I would look at the Eheim Hobby pumps, you can use them externally also.

I use the Quiet one Pump on one of my sump and an Eheim on another. Both are fine with the Eheim being quieter. You can adjust the flow on the Quiet one Pump which you can't do with the Eheim. The Quiet one Pump does get stuff clogged in it easier than the Eheim and you need to clean it out more.

Marrone, I am in the same boat as Solbby, trying to get rid of the Magdrive.
I was leaning towards the Quietone because of the price (about half the cost of the Ehiem) which size Quietone are you running?

Aaron I running the 1200 which is the smallest model and does 300gph. I don't need a lot of flow from my sump to the tank and it does the job just fine. From the sump to the tank is about 4' or so. I had some issues with it getting clogged and the Eheim pull water from a little lower in the sump than the Quiet one does.

I was thinking about the 3000, sound is a big issue for me as is cost, so if the 1200 is louder then the ehiem then i guess the 3000 will be louder still right?

Mike, which Ehiem would you recommend for a 4 foot distance from sump to main tank?

Wattage is important! I want the lowest watts and heat release! I am finding that the Magdrive pumps are extremely high heat producing pumps.
