Filter socks

So I started using filter socks instead of a tray with afilter pad on my sump, I will like to know what microns other reefers are using & if you reuse them how do you cleanthem.

I put them in a washing machine with no soap. Delicate setting. In the past, when they have gotten really stained from multiple uses, I would do a cycle with bleach follow by a no soap cycle.

I use 200micron felt sock from BRS.

To clean, I just turn it inside out and stick my kitchen sink faucet inside on the spray pattern with hot water. As I spray I rub the sock to clean it. Then I rinse and ring out the other side. I rotate 2 socks. Been using same 2 socks for about a year, I have other spares but have not needed them.

im a true believer in filter socks. I turn them inside out and wash them once cold with bleach in a washer, then wash again with nothing. Let air dry for at least two days. I own 10 so i wash all at once. My filter socks do their job, go in white and come out totally brown...i buy the rectangle ones from live aquaria store.

Same here , i wash with hot water and bleach, then i wash cold water and no bleach and then i lay em out to dry outside, good as new, i try to replace em all about once every 6 months but thats just my own thing.

200 micron here. I try to change them every other day, but most times I change them when they clog, and start to overflow which is at about the 4th. day. I use 2 at a time, have 10 so they get washed at the 4th. change out.
I turn them inside out, wash them in the washer with hot water bleach. The cycle I put them through is 1st. with bleach, pre-soak, wash, double rinse. 2nd. same as 1st. without bleach. Use to dry them in the dryer (my dryer has NEVER had softener sheets in it), but most times they just sit in the washer with the door open, and they dry just the same as if they were hung to dry.

never thought of using bleach in washer machine... but with so many people using it, I guess it is safe.

My washer's white cycle has a double rinse, and I run them through a 2nd. wash with out bleach which means they are literally rinsed 5 times......

what do you do with or where do you place the dirty socks while you wait for the others to get dirty? do you just place them in a bucket and let them dry with all that crap in it or do you put it in a bucket with water?

???? The socks that I use, are machine washed (and bleached) twice a month and are over 2 years old...looks like they will last another 2, easily!

I just put the dirty ones in a bucket and wait and wash them all together, YES SOME OF THE SOCKS COMPLETELY DRY OUT...didnt mean to use caps...

After use I flip mine inside out and watch them thoroughly, until all the visible crap is gone. After that they air dry for 2 days, then go into a pile of socks to be washed.

I have about 30 socks (bought the material and made them myself) and wash them as everyone else does. My supply lasts me about 3 months at a time before having to wash.

Any recommendation on a filter sock that's going on a sump that's 30x12x15 ?

I just use a mesh filter sock... just rinse and scrub out the crap under the faucet and let it dry... easier maintenance and does not clog up like the thicker felt type.
