Welcome to MR Michael.

If you want to buy LR from a LFS and your in brooklyn, I bought some of my rock from a pet shop on court street. I don't know any other good places.

You could order online too or look out for someone that is selling some LR. If you buy it from someone the rock will be a lot cheaper too.

Check out other peoples tanks, Ask what kind of rock they have, wehre they got it, how much it was, ect. Then decide what kind of rock you want, and how much you're willing to pay for it.

ME?

Mine was Fully cured Fiji. $5.50 a pound. Since I was setting up a small tank I paid extra to be able to hand pic the pieces.

It came from Paragon in CT. I don't think they're around anymore. Their website is gone, but I bet the store is still there.

ty BC, the pic u have on ur site is great! ur pieces r very unique. for me, the more growth (cool stuff) on it the better. A local LFS on 86th st wants 7.99/lb and it looks "boring".
I dunno, I want my first purchase to be a good 1

Ask for vinny at cobble hill, they don't keep alot on hand but I buy everything from him because he's a stand up guy that won't steer you wrong to make a buck. The fish are healthy and he won't sell you a fish that he hasn't had for a while to see if it's healthy. Let him know what your looking for and he'll help you plan it out. If you want tell him that Marie and Javier sent you and he'll take care of you. I got the majority of my rock from him. Like I said, he doesn't keep alot in store but he'll get whatever you need at a good price.

whatever you do, do not go to world of PETS on 86th street. They are a complete scam. They really took us for our money when we started. Their stuff is always sick and poor quality.

Yup steer clear of the world of pets on 86th and 60th street as well as the pet land on 86th. Fish are rarely ever healthy whenever I go there and they know very very little. I used to buy from them but then everything just died and died some more. :( Check around on RC.com for LR too.

Michael your probably right here in the area...I'm in Park slope...Gotta love the shark tank at 86th though. :D

Welcome Michael.. I think we are excited with your new tank as you are. MR is a very cool place to hang out and know people. Haven't met anyone here that is not nice :D .

If you really want some nice rock, the only way is to get other fellow reefer's LR rocks. Most the LR you get from store are just rock with not much life in them, like pods, worm, etc.. And it is always much cheaper than buying from store. You just need a little patience and wait for someone to sell them.

I brought mine for $3 for Kaelini LR and $2 for figi LR from members here. :D

I used to work in that area when did they start carrying saltwater? I stopped in there once they had a decent selection of fresh but no salt.
