From what I've seen and heard from others running them, the key is to start out slowly. Whatever they recommend, half it at least. I started running mine not too long ago and started out with a 1/3 of the dose. I know a lot of people that started using them recently and we all started slow and so far none of us have had any problems with them. I started them on a brand new tank so I don't have any hard eveidence that they're helping me but I have almost undetectable levels of phosphates and nitrates.

Start slow. 1/4 of recommended amount until bacteria is colonized is what I did, and added another 1/4 amount 2 months later. What are your N/P levels? I have moved off BPs for about 5 months, and have been using vinegar instead.

I had nitrate problems with my old corner tank. I think it had a lot to do with the tank shape causing flow issues.
Since I went with my 75, (same equip). They have been 0. My cheato also grow tremendously now.

I'm on week 3 of my Dr Tim's BPs on a heavily stocked 75g with 29g sump. I started with 1/4 cup, added another 1/4 cup 2 weeks later. I will repeat this 2 more times to reach the recommended dose.
My nitrates have always been an issue, even with a strict 15g WC every week. I believe it to be my DSB and aquascaping that cause the issues. My gobies are always digging new burrows, thus negating the point of a DSB. I still run carbon and GFO.
No cloudiness has occurred, skimmer production has increased and no problems with any corals to date (softies, LPS, SPS).
Levels at start of regimen:
No3: 50
Po4: .08
I'll let you know how they do in a few more weeks.

I started fresh on new 90 gal set up. Did get a white cloudy bloom for a few days. Nitrates was always 0. Phoshate was 0.08. After 4th month had a cyano break out little on LR and sand. Did notice glass had to be cleaned every day. Pulled the plug didn't lose any of my SPS. My mistake I should of used GFO from beginning with Bio Pellets. That is where I think I went wrong.
