Wanted to try rams by themselves (had them with discus before).

The reason is Rams ARE Cichlids.

That is not the reason at all...to put it bluntly. :wink:

The reason is that Rams happen to be a pairbonding, monogamous spawner rather than harem spawning or openly polygamous species which is VERY common in the cichlid realm.
