I really LOVE the Halichoeres melanurus wrasse. It's just simply stunning to me, but so is my yellow coris wrasse, and of course my Mystery wrasse!

I currently have 2 picassos in there as well. This is all in a 40 gallon breeder.

Am I pushing it with the Hoeven's wrasse?

Comments? Opinions? All welcomed.

Thanks in advance.

You may find a smaller specimen, but they max. out around 5 inches. So as with most fish available in the hobby, you need to be aware that they'll grow some. It may not be pushing the limits now, but it's close and will be eventually in 40B. A lot also depends on feeding / wc regimen / and filtration. No 2 systems are alike in what they can accomodate. just my 2 bits.

You could always give it a try and see how your bioload holds up and the fish aggressiveness pans out. Sell it if things aren't working out.

I think I have the heaviest Bioload on this site. I do 10 gallon water changes every week and I have an oversized skimmer. My tank is a 65 and is well stocked up. Although 2 fish will be taken out shortly.

You should be fine, you can never tell with wrasse combo's but all three of those fish can take care of themselves. I say go for it
