So i picked up a Zebra Moray a little over a week ago and everything was fine. All the water parameters are in check and i fed him twice in the first week some uncooked shrimp pieces and he ate it right up. I was watching the tank and all of a sudden he flew out of his usual hiding spot on a rampage thrashing back and forth like he was having a seizure and then just died. Mouth open upside down not moving or breathing. i waited a minute to see if it was just a momentary spasm of some sort but never came back....it was the weirdest thing i've ever seen. Anyone have any ideas what that was about???

What other fish, snails or inverts do you have in the tank? It's very possible something could have stung him and caused him to die. Also is it one of the large Zebra eels or the smaller banded eels, that are also sold under the same name? Any other fish die? How about a broken heater or a cord that was bitten into on a power head?

Just some Turbo snails, 2 fire shrimp, 1 cleaner shrimp, a bunch of hermit crabs. He wasn't near any coral or anything. It was a Zebra about 15" in length. All the cords are in tact i checked this morning and all the fish are swimming about like nothings wrong. I stuck my hand in and touched the cords to make sure there's no electrical shock (probably not that smart).

Maybe he messed with the foxface while his fins were up and it stung him??? I've been trying to figure it out all night

Maybe he stuck his hand in the tank and touched the cords. Seriously though sometimes fish exhibit eratic behavior before death.
