So I traded my hippo tang last friday for a false perc clown. The person I made the trade with said the clown had been in his system for two years. I noticed immediately that the fish had some kind of injury to his left side. After looking at onlie pics and reading, I thought it might be brook. However, a few things lead me to believe that it's something else:

1. The fish was in an established tank for 2 years. It couldn't have just gotten brook all of a sudden. So, could it have this for 2 years and only now exhibit symptoms?

2. I've had the fish since Friday and its condition has not changed. I believe brook kills very quickly. His breathing is normal (never labored), and the white patch has not gotten any bigger. Also, the patch is near but not really next to his gill. The tissue in and around both gills look fine.

3. The fish is not lethargic (swimming around normally) and has no slime or muccous covering him.

The fish has not eaten since I've gotten him on Friday. He sometimes appears interested in food when I feed the tank -- sometimes taking food and then spitting it out. Sometimes he's just not interested in the food. I have not actualy seen him eat (though I have lots of pods and he might be snacking on them when I'm at work).

I'm inclined to believe this is just an injury while the person I was trading with netted him and got him into a bag. Does anyone else have an opinion? And what can I try feeding him to get him to eat somethng? I've tried flakes, pellets, and arctipods, but he doesn't actually eat any of them (though he has tasted and spit out all three). Is he just really picky?

Try mysis soaked in garlic, vita chem and selcon. All three are great for their health and the garlic may entice him to eat the mysis a little more- my mated clowns(true percs) eat absolutely anything but they go BONKERS for mysis with garlic. Good luck getting him to eat
