Today I came back home to find a strange growth on the side of my pearly jawfish's head. At first I totally thought that it was a parasite of some sort, but upon closer inspection it actually seemed to be something that was jutting out of the side of the fish's mouth area. I then noticed that my jawfish kept on opening his mouth very wide (more than usual), and saw that there were one or two instances (not every time) where his mouth didn't close properly. For all intents and purposes, it looked as if he had dislocated his jaw, and that it was his jawbone that was jutting out the side of his head.

Has this happened to anyone else, with any fish? I feel bad for the little guy - he's gone through a lot, including a distressing week in my cramped overflow a few months back (when I finally got him out he was bruised, due to all the thrashing that he had done in an effort to get out). I doubt anything can actually be done for him, but is there any chance that he'll recover on his own? Fortunately, his condition doesn't seem to have affected his ability to eat or to dig, at least for now.

Thanks! Poor fishie D:
