Since posting the other night that I have an outbreak of Ick, my powder blue seems to have quite a few ick spots. If I have a second smaller aquarium with just snails in it currently (my old setup) should I remove him and try to cure him or just leave him in the display tank? Will it spread to everyone else or only affect him?

any advice is really helpful.

Thanks!

Technically you should remove ALL of your fish and QT them and leave your display tank fallow (fishless) for 6-8 weeks so the Ich in your DT will die off as it will have no fish host.

If you do not QT all of your fish, you cannot get rid of the ich (as permanently as possible).

Some will suggest feed with garlic, use a UV light and take your chances as some fish develop an immunity to ich (often temporary) but not all do and you need to know you stand a good chance of losing all of your fish this way.

To medically treat fish for Ich you have 2 choices - copper treatment or Hyposalinity. I will attach a link that explains them both (rather lengthy to write)

PBT get stressed out easily which causes the ick...IMO if it's still eating leave it alone feeding it some garlic prepared foods and it should recover in a couple of weeks depending on the severity of the ick...don't stress it out further by chasing it around trying to remove it.

if the ich spreads u will loose all your fish you should quarantine all the fish if you dont you can try a medicine that i used in the past it worked pretty good its fully reef safe the name is tropic marin coral but i would do hyposalinity it always worked for me

i dont want to hijack but since we're on the topic; weird observation, every time i turn my uv off my regal tang gets ick with in 2 days, and i know there is no direct correlation, but still weird.

I agree with everyone, as far as QT but just had a major outbreak, my 8" Sailfin and moorish idol were terribly covered, but still eating, did kent marine RX•P, and Kent Marine Polly OX on the off days, in 3-4 days, it began to clear, saved all fish, except for a copperband, stuff worked amazingly well, used it a couple of years ago in my 75 aggressive, and worked well, but you have to pull any lionfish, etc. It did not effect corals or even my cleaner shrimp, worth a shot if you can.

From my understanding and experience powder blues always get it. U will tend to see it more after u turn out the lights and before u turn them on. It also means he is stressed about some thing if he is new to the tank that will happen and if he is not new their is some kind of change in the tank. Any change can affect him even water temp can affect him so check everything for changes that will stress him out. As far as other fish getting it they say all fish can get it but I have only experienced it with tang. And if it don't look so bad just leave him in their because taking him out may stress him more. The best stuff I have tried and worked but u must follow the directions is ruby kick ick it pricey but works and I also like to use it when I get any new tank to the tank if u r putting it with other tang. Good luck and hope its not to late.
