My naso eats only algae

Have you had success in getting your naso to accept other foods? Or should I not be concerned about this? I got a naso tang and a yellow tang at the same time and both have been devouring the algae in my tank. Between them and the algae blennie the back wall is almost completely cleared.

My Blonde Naso was doing the same when I first got him. I tried mysis with no luck pelets with the same results. Then I tried flake food and had some luck. They are very timid and slow when it comes time to eat. So I make sure he gets his portion. The flakes cannot be to big though. You will have to crunch it between your fingers to break it up. The problem will lie when you run out of algae. So start now. Everyday I put romane lettuce and he will pick at it from time to time. Hope this helped some.

It depends on where their collected .I wouldn't be concerned as long as it's eating but you will need to give him alot more. Brown, purple and a little green algae.Eventualy he will pick up other foods.

i wouldn't worry so much, he will eventually go for other foods once he gets real hungry. my naso did not touch anything for weeks except algae.... he is eating which is a good sign.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm going to try my tangs on lettuce and see if they'll eat it.

Lettuce is for people,although some people feed their tangs lettuce .It's not nutritious enough imo.Feed them Brown/Purple seaweed and spirulina flakes they will digest it better. Don't be cheap.

You can also feed him Nori Sheets (seaweed used to wrap sushi). I get Nori from Fine Fare & Waldbaum.
