Pair of mysis-eating Green Mandarins

If you saw, for sale, a pair of Green Mandarins (male and female) that has been trained to eat frozen mysis very well and can be kept in a smaller tank. How much do you think they're worth?

I would say be minimum cost would be at least $90 to cover the costs of the animals, difficulty of finding healthy a male and female, and training effort, time, and supplies.

Be careful... I was talking to the guy at a LFS and he said that even though the mandarin in his tank is eating frozen mysis that he might get too freaked out in the new tank at my house and revert back to eating only pods. He advised against me buying it because my tank isn't established enough in case that happens.

What a great idea, a bottle of pods to feed the mandarins. Wonder why nobody thought of that. Maybe it is because you are going to find out that a bottle does not last long with these guys.

as was said earlier, even if they are eating mysis it doesn't mean that they are receiving all the nutrition they need from it.

ie. they eat mysis and die anyway.

I ave one in my system eating mysis and i have had him now for over 8 months looking really healty by far the best fish in my system.

yea thats a bit pricey and with any live item there is no guarantee that they will stay eating frozen.best to just wait and stock ur tank and fuge with copepods and such.mine is nice and fat cause my tank and fuge is stocked and every once in a while i take some live rock for fuge and shake of some in the main tank just to make sure there always in there 4 him. he was a lil skinny when i got him now he is nice and fat.i put frozen food around him all the time and never see him go after any.

Not to mention the salt, water changes, electricity, plain effort and time, and all this assuming that you actually succeed in getting them to eat. How about if they consistently eat mysis in the tank and off your tweezers? I would consider them part of the CUC:

Not saying they are eating mysis or breeding for that matter ...

Guaranteed there are buyers for them at $90+ ... as proven with some of the posts.

Let's be honest ... most people don't care how much work goes into getting them to eat and then for them to spawn on top of that ... they will give you that blank look and say ... "Oh that's nice ........."
