Hey guys. I am here in Wisconsin and its 3 in the AM my time and I have some insomnia. So I turned on the lights in my tank and took some pics of my Sargassum angler I have had for about 3 days. He is at least 4 inches and is a nice yellow hue. He has these "vents" on his legs that are disgusting and they open up in unison with his gills and it makes him look like an alien. I really think these things came from another planet. He only comes out at night and hides all die in his cave usually in one spot but he moves around to other places. He is never completely out of sight be he tries as best as he can. The only time he is out and about is when I turn the light on late at night after it has been dark for at least an hour. He has been yet to consume his only other tank inhabitant, a 3" jewel damsel, but I can't blame him since the fish is at least 3/4 his size and since he is so new to the tank. I am going to try to get a few damsels that are an inch or smaller, but I think there is a good chance the large jewel damsel would kill the smaller ones really fast. I already saw him kill an azure within 3 days and a humbug within a week. Enjoy the pics. Ill update soon.

Alright I need some help feeding this guy. I have had him for 2 weeks and he hasn't eaten. I know this isn't good, but if I make quick moves I think i'll be ok. I am looking online for feeders that I can buy. I want to get saltwater shrimp that will survive in the 12 gallon and be consumed by the sargassum and not by the 3" damsel. Does anyone know about the shrimp species Palaemonetes vulgaris aka common shore shrimp? I found an online store that has 50 that are 1 inch for $35. I am thinking about going this route.

yea bait store with killies might work if you want to give your tank disease, try some ghost shrimp from a local pet store or website, if not feeder goldfish. injure them a little bit ad make them go towards it. if not hold them bi it with chopsticks

ok if you are worried boout introducing diseases you could freshwater dip the killies.

You could also use mollies. I think petstop in huntington has mollies in saltwater

Diseases can be introduced with saltwater shore shrimp as well.

IMO you're better off training him to eat frozen foods. I used to stick a piece of silverside, shrimp, etc. on a skewer and wiggle it in front of him. He was quick to get the idea. Don't feed him too often. They really only need to eat 3-4 times a week.
