Yellow Tangs are supposed to be hardy fish. I recently purchased one and it eats really nothing. I read they prefer vegetable matter. He is currently in a 10 gal. quarantine tank by himself, for about a week now. The water parameters are good. He hasn't shown any signs of illness other than finicky eating. Can anyone recommend foods I should give him to open up his appetite, that he will most likely consume:splitspin?

He is probably stressed out get him out of the 10 gallon tank if he looks healthy and put him in your main tank and he will start eating just fine. A week in a quarantine tank is plenty of time to see if he is healthy. Also try some PE piscine Mysis shrimp even the most picky of fish eat it.

1 week isn't plenty of time, you should do 2 - 4 weeks. If possible a bigger tank would be better or a Rubbermaid container.

Unless the tang is really big a 10gal tank will be fine but I would get one of those 20gal Rubbermaid containers. As for it not eating, I would try some nori sheets as mention above.

Don't rush your QT process just because the fish doesn't look good or isn't eating, after all that's what it's for. Also don't rush it just because the fish looks good.

Back in the 80's, I couldn't keep a yellow tang alive for more then a few weeks. They always did not eat well and had the pinched stomach look. Now I have 5 yellow tangs between two tanks and they have survived disease, parasites and are healthy as can be.
Go figure.

Try to clip some romanian lettuce in the tank. Some brine shrimp with a drop or two or garlic exteme.. I agree the 10 gallon may e a little too small for him and causing him to be stressed out.. what are you trying to feed him? And how big is he?
