I have been asking around (Jim thanks for your help) regarding the reef compatibility with the Venustus Angel. I was also interested in the Potters, but am worried as I have Acans, Clams, and SPS. Has anybody had one before mixed the same kinds of corals? Is there a way I can keep either one well fed to help steer them away from coral/clam nipping?

I know no angel is guaranteed reef safe, but wanted to get peoples opinion if anyones ever owned one.

Thanks

as stated before there is no guarentee on any angel fish. 1 might pick one might not, no way of knowing till it is in the tank, if you can get a pygmy eating frozen your a step ahead,

Never kept the Venustus ... but had great success with the Potter's in an SPS dominant tank a long time ago ... also had clams ... the works ... never nipped at anything ... it's really luck of the draw. You can try keeping them well-fed but that is no guarantee either. I have a Flame Angel in my current tank ... shows absolutely no interest in corals what-so-ever.

I got a Venustus from Michael Stern a little before Thanksgiving and I have acans, SPS, LPS and clams. He has been a model citizen with one exception - when I get new acans he does nip at them but once they grow back he leaves them alone. Other than that NP. HTH - it is such a beautiful fish it is worth the risk IMHO.

heres one that liked acans too much.

I've had 2 flame angels that never bothered coral, they seem to have more success stories.

was hoping for a success story so I could get one! will hold off.. :(

Justin, it would be very easy to find a single solitary success story. My question to you is, what good would that story be to YOUR success if your Venustus picked at your LPS, clams etc.?

You could potentially take the exact fish from your success story, put him/her in your tank, and get a different result.

Worth it in my opinion? Nope. To you? Possibly.

;)

if you really love the fish it might be worth looking into setting up another tank to house potentially un-reef safe species. You could tie the new tank into the exiting reef to add more water volume.
