would like to have a garden eel

hey guys, a friend told me about these garden eels and i want one. where can i get one and is it reef safe thanks

Do you have a sandbed about 8" deep?
They require one.

no, i have not done any research yet. but 8" of sand is alot for a reg reef tank i would think, thanks for the advice am new here but learning lol.

There are a tremendous amount of really interesting creatures out there, always best to do research on them - even with just a quick Google search - to find out some facts about them. Unfortunately many do not do well in our tanks, or require specific type of habitats to thrive..and helping these creatures thrive should be our goal

There is a lot of conflicting information on these on the internet and in general. Success in captivity is pretty limited. The only semi successful colony I know of personally is housed in a 580gal and cared for by an extremely knowledgeable person. They show up frequently on availability lists but I would steer clear. Prior research in this hobby can save you a lot of money, time, and heartache.
