Third Fish died during this months

Today , the third fish died in this morning . I don't know what happen to my tank . My tank is 46 gal with 40gal sump .

All three fishes died are same . They were all in good condition pervious. Eat good .Then just suddently stop to eat. After a day , and they all looks lose the power to swimming and just stay in a corner ---died .

I test the water everything are all fine . PH, NO2 NH3 ...

The fish I lost are Yellow Tang (8 months ) , Foxface ( 8 months ) Asful Angel ( 4 months )



What should I do now ? Do I need restart my tank ? Is the disease in my tank ? Please help me

what is "fine" you need to post actual numbers. And how big is your tank that you had all these large fish?

What are the other tank stats? Like how much live rock do you have? How long has this tank been running? What filtration do you have? What heaters do you have? What are the other tank mates? etc. The more information you could give us the better we could give you advice.

Here you go .

PH 8.2 , NO2 between 0-0.25 , AMMONIA 0 , PO4 0 ( I use RO UNIT )
BTW I changed the 10% water per week

No that's not fine. You have nitrite in the tank for who knows how long. That shouldn't even be present. What are the nitrate readings?

Something is VERY wrong with your readings.
you had 1 Yellow Tang, 1 Foxface, 1 Asful Angel, 1 Blue Tang (I assume you mean Hippo), AND 6 Clown fish in a 46 gallon tank with only 30 LBS of Live Rock? You are WAY WAY WAY overstocked in this tank.

I suspect you're using a highly inaccurate/ or expired test kits for these readings.

Ummm NO!!! Overstocked means you have too many fish in your small tank. The Foxface, Tangs, and angels need a large tank even 1/2 of one of those fish is too much for your tank.

Tonytan you should have more LR, I have the same tank w/ around 80lbs LR, and about 6lbs in the refugium. My ammo, and nitites are always zero, nitrates around 20-30 depending on my water changes. Goodluck.

it isnt neccessary to have a ton of rock, i never have in any of my tanks, what protein skimmer are you using ? a sump doesnt mean it'f creating filtration, anything in the sump ? only fish that you listed that really should be in a tank that size is the clown, tangs and angels can and will become stressed not having enough area to swim in as well, not that i am the tang police and have broken a few rules myself before, but no tang should be in that tank let alone an angel, amount of fish isnt how you would go by either, does a tang poop the same amount as a goby or a clown fish ? all those fish are heavy poopers and will create a problem if not being skimmed enough and would say you still would need to be doing atleast 20% wc, would also bet your amonia isnt zero and nitrates are alot higher, as asked what kits are you using

Overstock is a long term issue you will have to resolve but lets focus back on the sudden deaths of fish that occured lately. It looks like you do have a diease in the tank and fish ability to fight diease largely depends on stress level. When it's over stock, your fish's immune system is weakened. The fish break when the stress level is heightened due to heightened over stock situation(your fish will grow bigger and bigger). Try to indentify if there is any signs of diease the fish are having.

Had you added anything lately, including rocks and live stock, an equipement or such?

Should you restart? Not sure yet but larger amount of water change is desirable in the mean time.

Sorry to hear of your sudden fish losses. Though you may not at this very moment be able to find the absolute cause of these specific fish, hopefully you will be able to prevent future occurances such as this.

I am not completely sure where you got the 2 gallons of water for one fish "rule". Though it is very inaccurate. Even some go by 1" per gallon of fish or more, also not the best way to determine how many fish you can house. Specific species of fish need specific things as far as space is concerned. Also specific species of fish put out more of a bioload than others do and if a system is not properly filtered it can pose a problem overtime.

A test kit is only as accurate as its user. So testing is great but not always accurate and it is always good to test multiple times with different kits if a problem arises and compare results, to try and eliminate user error.

Certainly a nitrite reading, which is toxic to fish, can give you a good indication as to why they became stressed and stopped eating and died. It could be a simple overstocking issue, something was off and the tank went through a cycle.. there are many variables. I hope you are able to figure this out and have success in the future.

It could just be stress. If the fish stop eating and sit in a corner for a day then die it could be just them giving up.

Stress could be from high parameters or beeing in an overcrowded tank or anything else like Fluctuations, lack of favorite food, ect.

Somethings wrong with the fish, and it doesn't look like an external parasite or disease. Your test kits im sure are off or bad. We don't even know your salinity and your tank setup to make any conclusions if its beeing filtered properly, what salt your using, how your adding mixed saltwater, you could be mixing the salt right into the tank like someone else here and killing things that way.

My bets are incompatibility between the fish, if you see it or not in that overcrowded tank, thats causing the fish to stress out and die on you.
