well i got a Yashia Shrimp Goby a few days ago, I will leave him/her to get used to the tank for another month or so. But i want to get a pistol shrimp for it. I have 2 questions!

* Whats the best way to introduce the 2 of them, do i just release the shrimp in the area with the Goby. Or can i release anywhere and they will meet on their own terms.

and

* Can i match this kind of Goby with any Pistol Shrimp or just a Candy Stripe Pistol? And where can i find one in the Tri-State area.

He has already set up shop in a Ship and dug a decent crater in the sandbed inside the ship.

You May Call Me Yasha, King of the Stonogobiops

Excerpt:
The most sought after Stonogobiops also happens to be the focus of this column. The Whiteray or Yasha Hashe Goby that is commonly referred to as scientifically un-described is actually named Stonogobiops yasha. This species is most often found in pairs, but not always. It is, however, always found with the shrimp Alpheus randalli.

good stuff, thanks!

does this mean i need another goby and 2 shrimps?.. or will one of each be find for now.
"Stonogobiops are always found as male/female pairs, so there is usually a pair of gobies and often a pair of pistol shrimp living within this cave"

"The shrimp will collapse the entrance each night after all the occupants are inside. This serves as protection from animals that are able to slither into the burrow and capture their prey"

so does this mean i can't pair?

"Both the gobies and the shrimp can be very particular about whom they enter into a relationship with, however, so it may be best to avoid trying to pair up the two if they are acquired separately"

does anyone else have personal experience with this ?

You can't force them to pair up. You can try putting a pistol shrimp in the tank and see if they pair up. If you are going to try to put a shrimp in the tank let it loose close to the Yashia and hope that they pair up. It might not happen right away or ever, but that is the only way to find out.

ehh, i guess it's hit or miss. You think i can just take the Goby out my display tank and keep it in my hospital tank till i get the shrimp and introduce them both at the same time. Rather than have the goby already astablish a home and just toss in a strange shrimp.

I am hoping that the urge to team up to survive in a new place/tank will force them to creat a relationship.

i am not sure if this helps or not but I have a yellow watchman goby and plan to get a pistol shrimp. Not easy to find a pistol shrimp in NYC. I plan to just pop the bad boy in my display tank and see how it goes

i keep you posted but still searching for my pistol

oh yes deff keep me posted. I might make a small nano tank (20 gallon) with a deeeep sand bed and base it on just the goby and a pistol shrimp and maybe a few cleaners and some SPS and shrooms.

it might be a little better to controle them matching on a smaller scale, plus i'll have a nice time trying to get that Goby out my display tank. He has already moved to a large rock cropping.

I also have a pair of Yellow watchman, no shrimp with these lil guys, but they have spawned 2 times since getting them with no fry.( none that i see anyway)

Love the canon and shipwreck!

lol, yea i'm sure it makes him feel safe down there. lol but that was a gift i got from my little coz, and i felt like i needed to keep it in the tank. It has since been whored out by almost every animal in my tank.

Yellow watchman, a pepperman shrimp, back to the yellow watchman, and now this Goby, and he just left it to move to the otherside of the tank for a nice heap of live rock. I wonder who will move in next?

PS: there is a little brittle/brissle star in the canon. lol when i feed the tank he just sticks out his tentacle, lol never fully comes out
they are everywhereee!!

In my experience, just put the pistol and the watchman in the same tank and they find each other within a day or so. I also find the easiest goby to work with is the yellow watchman, if you have both yellow watchman and yasha in your tank, $20 says the yellow will bond with the pistol first and yasha will be lonely.

BTW, there are a couple of species of pistols to avoid, one is a Caribbean specie (mostly pink and red)and the other is the bullseye. Both of those are solitary animals and will NEVER pair with your goby. I had great luck with the Randolii and the tiger pistols.

Good luck.

sickkk!!

thanks for the info. I wasn't planning on pairing my Yellow watchman with a shrimp. i have a breeding pair right now, and they just spawned for the 2nd time. Should be spawning in another 3 -4 weeks.

so right now i'm only trying to pair the Yasha with a pistol shrimp ( i have been looking into Randolii, but just can't find one locally)
