When I got home from work today, I went to check on my tank as usual, and found my golden dwarf moray eel on the floor right in front of the tank. I immediately picked him up and put him back in the tank. He kind of sank and then halfway down started to swim under his rock. I just saw his head sticking out of his rock and am very happy he survived. I have no idea how long he was out of the tank (could have been up to 12 hours since I left the house this morning.)

Wow......I was lucky!

same thing happened to me when I had a snowflake eal , a friend was checking out my tank and saw the eal on the floor he kinda pointed at it with his foot and said "the kids toy is..." the eal jump he jump higher and laughed my a** off as I grabbed it and put it back in the tank the eal was fine it did look a little beat up but it recovered
they are amazing animals my brother catches them all the time in Greece and it takes a lot to kill them (moray eals) they make a great soup the meat tastes great but too many bones for me

I nearly bought a Snowflake today, but decided not to because I don't have a glass top.

Glad to hear yours is okay.

Thanks. Glass tops are most certainly key to keeping an eel. I was once acclimating a fish (floating the bag) and my brazilian horned leaped out of the tank. They fit through very small spaces with ease.

The Brazilian horned was still wet when I found him. It had only been 15 minutes since I had left the tank. The golden dwarf was in the middle, felt kind of like rubber. He didn't move when I picked him up. At first I thought he was dead but after 5 seconds of being in the, he swam right to the bottom and looked like he was opening his mouth as wide as he could to breathe.

Thankfully eels are hardy.
